Term Deposit Rates

Term deposits usually offer a fixed return on investment (ROI) when you deposit a certain amount over a fixed term. You can generate regular interest from the investemnt however you cannot access the funds.

Term deposit rates vary but most providers offer a similar rate in order to remain competitive. Some of the best term deposit rates are provided by BankWest and ING Direct, although the products offered by these two providers are not really "term deposits". This is because you have access to your funds within a day or two and therefore your funds are not locked away for any "term".

You will generally be given the choice to collect interest either on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis. At maturity, there are the options of reinvestment, increasing funds or withdrawal.

However, term deposit rates such as those provided by Westpac, ANZ, CBA, NAB and St George are appealing because they offer a fixed interest rate for the duration of the investment. This means that reliance on economic interest rates are not so important as the rate will not fluctuate.

You can also find good term deposit rates from Esanda and Macquarie Bank.
