High Interest Savings Accounts

Most parents have set up their early teen children with a savings account. This teaches our young adults fiscal responsibility as well as the vocabulary and structure of an increasingly complex and growing banking industry.

There are a range of savings accounts available ranging from those dedicated to young teenagers to those for large accounts and high interest payment rates. This is where the economy works both ways in an economic downturn or recession - those with loans endure rising interest rates, while those with savings, find their interest payments increasing nicely.

High interest savings accounts such as ING, term deposits and Net Saver accounts often serve as a good place to park money until you need it. A general savings account will not offer a great interest rate but should offer basic services such as ATM access globally, free (or a certain number of free) transactions, cheque deposits and online banking options.
